At the beginning of February this year, the city district of Prague 1 opened its first contact point for housing directly at the address of its office. Now she has opened a second such place that will help people in need with their housing situation. The contact point is located at a strategic point in Prague – Újezd.

“Primarily, this contact point is intended for citizens of Prague 1 who have found themselves in a bad housing situation, for whatever reason. For example, the worst ones, such as the death of a partner, when they do not receive funds, or for health reasons, when they also do not receive funds, or for some other reasons, when people are worried about their housing,” explains the mayor of the Prague 1 district, Terezie Radoměřská ( TOP 09).

“We chose this place so that residents from the other bank of the Vltava, from Malá Strana, from Pohořelc and the surrounding area would also be close to us. We have created a second Contact point here. At the moment, it is a contact point for housing, and in time it will also be a contact point for the family and for the community,” adds councilor of Prague 1 district Ivana Antalová (Bez PP).

In the future, Prague 1 would like to focus on helping foreigners with housing and more on family policy.

“The biggest problem is the language barrier, for example, when they are looking for places for children in kindergartens, in schools, when they need to find their way around processing various documents, various assistance and so on,” says councilor of Prague 1 district Ivana Antalová (Bez PP).

“We will focus our attention now more on a pro-family policy, which refers to connecting multiple generations, it’s not just about young people being here and having children, but also connecting the extended families that ultimately create the community within the district ,” describes Terezie Radoměřská, mayor of the Prague 1 district (TOP 09).

The new Contact Center for housing was co-financed by the European Union and was also created with the support of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.

“It is mainly the first contact for citizens. Simple, understandable and, in this case, barrier-free access. At the same time, it is a simple consultation, because citizens can come up with anything related to the issue of housing, and the person who will be sitting here, an experienced worker, will help them sort and classify the problems, possibly recommending directly an application for an apartment or can solve other problems,” concludes Barbora Špicarová Stašková from the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Czech Republic.

The Contact Center also includes a children’s corner and the place is also dog-friendly. On the minus first floor, there is also a space that Prague 1 rents out for SVJ meetings and non-profit organizations for various lectures and workshops, which will bring the space even more to life and will be used both during the day and in the evening.
