“The ice men brought quite cold overnight temperatures on Monday. “Because of the clear sky and calming of the wind, temperatures fell to one degree Celsius, mainly in the northeastern and eastern parts of the Czech Republic, with numerous ground frosts,” meteorologists on the X network said.

During the day, however, temperatures rise to 19 to 23 degrees, in the Czech Republic up to 25 degrees Celsius. The sky will be clear to semi-clear, precipitation or thunderstorms will occasionally appear in the Šumava in the evening. A similar pattern of weather will persist on Tuesday. However, night temperatures will no longer drop below freezing.

It will start to blow on Wednesday, with gusts of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour, and on Thursday it will become cloudy with gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour. On Friday, it will gradually rain over the entire territory and there is also a threat of thunderstorms. According to meteorologists, the weekend should also be rainy. Temperatures will range between 16 and 21 degrees Celsius.

Risk of fires

In some parts of the Czech Republic, the risk of fire spreading will also be at its highest from Tuesday to Friday, according to the forecast that scientists publish and regularly update on the FireRisk website. The reason is the low humidity of the fuel, i.e. wood and brushwood in the forest, and windy weather.

The worst situation will be in northern Bohemia and the northern half of central Bohemia, on some days the highest risk will also be in the southeastern part of Moravia or part of southern Bohemia. On a substantial part of the remaining territory, the risk of fire spreading will be at the second highest level, said climatologist Pavel Zahradníček from the Institute of Global Change Research of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic – CzechGlobe.

“Wind gusts, which significantly increase the risk, are expected mainly from Wednesday to Friday and can reach up to 15 meters per second,” added Zahradníček. The moisture content of the fuel increased significantly last week after the heavy rains, but they did not hit the republic evenly and in some places it did not rain at all, so the drying of the landscape continued.

In most areas, fuel moisture is forecast to be between five and ten percent from Tuesday. With such a high risk, experts advise to consider whether there is a need to start a fire at all, and if so, to take measures to prevent it from spreading. A high risk also means the possibility of a fire spreading, for example by throwing away a cigarette butt in the wild.

The high fire risk is forecast to ease on Saturday thanks to rain. The last time there was such a high fire risk was at the turn of April and May, i.e. at the time of the burning of witches.
