The accident happened on Sunday shortly before 5 p.m. in the village of Boč, which is part of the municipality of Stráž nad Ohří.
“The 46-year-old driver of a Ford vehicle driving in the direction of Chomutov apparently missed a Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by a 47-year-old man who was overtaking a column of vehicles in the left lane while turning left,” police spokesman Jan Bílek reported on Tuesday about the accident.
A collision followed, after which the ambulance took the motorcycle driver to the hospital with serious injuries by helicopter. The police did not report any injuries to the driver of the car.
“Both drivers submitted to an indicative breath test for the presence of alcohol, which came out with a negative result,” the spokesman mentioned.
In the video recording of the accident, taken by the on-board camera of the driver driving behind the car with the wheelchair, it can be seen that the collision happened suddenly. In connection with the accident, Bílek reminded of the importance of all road users being alert at all times.
“It is often dangerous to overlook a motorcycle, which is why it is very important for motor vehicle drivers to look both ways, for example when turning at an intersection. One of the most important rules for motorcycle drivers is to see and be seen,” added the spokesperson.
