“From the very beginning of the negotiations, we perceived the Ore Mountains as one geographical entity, regardless of regional borders. The unified destination management, which works successfully on the Saxon side of the border, was an inspiration for us,” said Deputy Governor of the Karlovy Vary region Vojtěch Franta, adding that work on the establishment of the destination agency began in 2020 with the signing of a joint memorandum.

“With the establishment of a destination agency, the Ore Mountains will receive joint management after 70 years,” praised Michal Urban, director of the public benefit company Montanregion Ore Mountains – Erzgebirge, at the signing of the agreement.

“Cooperation between the two regions, municipalities, cities and tourism entities is essential, as it was before the war and as it works today in Saxony,” stated Urban. The organization he heads takes care of the Ore Mountains monuments listed on the UNESCO list. Nothing will change with the establishment of the destination agency.

Both regions declared that they would each contribute two million per year for five years to start up the destination agency. “However, I assume that with the growing number of entities involved in the agency, the regional contribution will gradually decrease. After the announced five years, the agency could be financially self-sufficient,” indicated Jiří Řehák, Deputy Governor of the Ústí Region.

He admitted, however, that negotiations with cities and municipalities about joining the agency have not yet begun. “It doesn’t make any sense before the municipal elections. Right after them, however, in cooperation with Vojtěch Franta, I want to offer a destination agency as an advantageous product,” explained Řehák.

They want a protected landscape area

Vojtěch Franta also mentioned the connection of the new agency with the intention of declaring the Protected Landscape Area of the Ore Mountains. According to him, both acts must harmonize harmoniously. “This means spreading tourism in such a way that it does not disturb protected localities,” stated Franta.

The mayor of Boží Dar, Jan Horník, is convinced that tourism and environmental protection can work side by side without problems. This is documented by the fact that in the immediate vicinity of the popular tourist town is the largest grouse breeding ground.

All further steps in the operation of the destination agency Krušná hory will be under the responsibility of its director. The selection procedure for this position is being prepared in the same way as the entry in the register, the selection of the headquarters and the development of a unified visual of the agency.

As for the seat, the formality is at the Regional Office of the Karlovy Vary Region. “However, the regional branches will be evenly distributed in both regions,” added Petr Kulhánek, governor of the Karlovy Vary region.
