Serena Williams played the last match of her career
Serena Williams (605th) lost in the 3rd round of the US Open to Australian Ajla Tomljanovic (46th) in three hours and five minutes after sets 5:7, 7:6(4) and 1:6.

The American tennis player averted five match points in the third set, but was unable to resist more. The former world No. 1 brought to an end a rich career that saw her win 23 Grand Slam singles titles, five Masters titles and one Olympic singles gold medal.

Krejčíková and Siniaková advanced in less than an hour
Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková advanced to the round of 16 of the US Open. In the 2nd round, the Czech couple defeated the Romanian-American couple Bogdanová and Santamariaová in 58 minutes after sets 6:2 and 6:2.

The Czechs served well, then created ten break points on the return. After a one-sided duel, they can look forward to the next stage of the American Grand Slam, in which they will meet the fifteen seeded Japanese Aoyama and Taiwan’s Chan.

“It was better than Thursday. We were active, we didn’t give them many chances. It was great that we caught the start and then pushed them. A decent match,” pleased Siniaková.

Hradecká entered the mix victoriously
Lucie Hradecká won the opening round of the mixed at the US Open. The Czech tennis player with the Pole Lukasz Kubot defeated the Dutch duo Middelkoop and Schuurs in an hour and 15 minutes after sets 6:4 and 6:4.

The match was decided by converting chances. The Czech-Polish pair averted eight break points out of nine. In order to break her opponents’ serve three times, she then needed only four break points. In the 2nd round, Hradecká and Kubot will challenge the Japanese Šibaharaová and the Croatian Skugor.
