The authorities granted the most visas to Ukrainians in the last seven days on Monday, 1,413. On Wednesday, 1,265 refugees received visas. On other working days, the authorities granted hundreds of them. No visas were issued on weekend days, just like the previous week.

In the past week, 16,549 people from Ukraine reported to the foreign police. In a week-on-week comparison, there were 3,200 more. They must report to the police within three days of arriving in the country, children under the age of 15, who make up about a third of the refugees, do not have to report. In total, 459,243 Ukrainians have registered with the Czech authorities since the beginning of the war.

The exact number of Ukrainian refugees residing in the Czech Republic is not known. At the end of August, half a year after the start of the Russian invasion, Minister of the Interior Vít Rakušan (STAN) estimated their number at more than 300,000.

There are also many children of school age among the refugees. This week, between 57,000 and 60,000 children from Ukraine started school in the Czech Republic, Minister of Education Vladimír Balaš (STAN) said at the start of the new school year on Thursday. According to him, the resort expected a higher number of high school students. “We have more of a problem with high school youth, this is due to the fact that they have a different education system, they have an eleven-year-old girl,” said Balaš. A number of children at the age of 17 therefore did not apply to secondary schools in the Czech Republic because they want to finish schooling in Ukraine, even though they now have online classes.
