Prague – A series of events organized by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and the Environment during September aims to support the protection of the climate, the environment and biodiversity. The Czechia4Climate campaign will be launched today in Prague by Minister of the Environment Anna Hubáčková (KDU-ČSL) and Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský (Pirates). A two-day conference on adaptations to climate change or a meeting of climate ambassadors in Prague will be included. The campaign takes place within the framework of the Czech Presidency of the EU.

“In the week of September 12, 2022, the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU will organize several events in the Czech Republic and abroad to support the protection of the climate, the environment and biodiversity in the world. With this step, the Czechia wants to acknowledge its responsibility for solving such a fundamental global issue that is climate change,” said Ondřej Charvát for the Ministry of the Environment (MŽP). He added that the campaign also includes the Economic and Environmental Forum of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, which will take place in Prague on September 8 and 9.

Experts will discuss the current challenges of environmental protection from September 12 during the three-day conference Environment – environment for life in the National Technical Library in Prague. A conference on adaptation to climate change will take place in Prague on September 13 and 14. Experts will present procedures, pilot projects and methodologies related to water retention in the EU, soil renewal and forest resilience. The conference is also supposed to support the discussion of legal measures for the restoration of nature or soil protection. An event on the topic of the Green Deal for Europe is planned for September 14 at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague.

The EU climate ambassadors will also meet in the capital on September 16. They will discuss issues of climate security and the EU’s preparation for November’s world climate conference COP27 in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. On the same day, there will be an informal meeting of the EU Council’s working group for international environmental issues in Prague. Part of the campaign is the traditional European Mobility Week, which aims to promote sustainable forms of transport. It will last from September 16 to 22.

“Other events relate to international negotiations in Jakarta or New York, where the Czech Republic will represent the entire EU as the country holding the presidency,” Charvát added to the campaign program.
