The suspension bridge in Lower Moravia, the Radbuza embankment in Pilsen or the reconstruction of the Žižkov Army Museum in Prague are among the 31 nominees for the Construction of the Year 2022 award. The progressing implementations from the 79 entries were announced on Monday at the National Technical Museum in Prague. The titles will be distributed on October 13, and a third of the finalists will receive the crystal stamp. The Foundation for the Development of Architecture and Construction, which organizes the competition, informed about it.

The jury of the jubilee 30th year of the competition said that Sky Bridge 721, as the 721-meter-long bridge in the Jeseníky foothills is called, is considered “an extraordinary realization of the unique design solution of the longest suspension bridge for pedestrians”. The Radbuza embankment in Pilsen was liked by the jury with a group of experts for its extraordinary approach to the solution of public space in an active floodplain.

Among the nominees are, for example, the restoration of the Vyškov substation, the reconstruction and modernization of the Zámeček monument in Pardubice, the modification of the headland of the Hořín navigation channel, the multifunctional Pavilon Z in České Budějovice, the footbridge over the Elbe in Nymburk, flood protection measures on the river Desná in Rapotín, the reconstruction of the Clam Gallas Palace in Prague or the facilities and cabins of footballers in Sobínov.

The Foreign Building of the Year will also be announced for the ninth time. Buildings in the Slovak cities of Prešov and Bratislava, in Latvia and in Bogotá, Colombia are vying for the award.

The competition is intended for buildings completed and commissioned or approved by the end of May this year. New buildings, reconstructions, traffic structures, exteriors, interiors, as well as important parterres and gardens were registered.

The announcement of this year’s edition will be followed on November 18 by a gala evening in the Rudolfinum in cooperation with the Czech Philharmonic, at which all the titles and constructions over the 30 years of the competition will be recalled in the form of a recapitulation.
