There is a threat of torrential rain. Thunderstorms will hit the Czechia on Wednesday and Thursday

Thunderstorms with torrential rain, hail and strong winds will hit the Czechia on Wednesday and Thursday. This follows from the warning published today by the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ). First, the storm will appear in the center and northwest of Bohemia. On Thursday, storms will gradually pass over the entire territory of the Czech Republic. It will rain up to 40 millimeters of rain, i.e. 40 liters per square meter, and the wind will have a speed of up to 70 kilometers per hour.

For today, the ČHMÚ warning applies from 15:00 to 20:00 for the Central Bohemian, Liberec, Ústí and Karlovy Vary Regions, Prague and also the northern part of the Pilsen Region. Meteorologists expect less precipitation today than on Thursday, namely 30 millimeters. However, as on Thursday, hail and wind gusts with a speed of up to 70 kilometers per hour may appear.

On Thursday, thunderstorms will first affect the whole of Bohemia, for which the warning is valid from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Then they will move to Moravia and Silesia, where the warning is issued from 15:00 to 21:00. In addition to hail and wind, there will probably be heavier rain than today, with a volume of precipitation of up to 40 millimeters.

According to ČHMÚ workers, the rains today and Thursday may flood smaller streams and flood basements or underpasses. The wind can then break trees and there is also a risk of injuries from flying objects or falling hail and lightning. People should therefore be careful when moving outdoors and when driving a car.
