A light guidance system was on fire at Prague’s Ruzyně airport. Firefighters responded to the scene. Airport operations were suspended during the fire.
At Prague’s Václav Havel Airport, the lighting guidance system on runway 24 caught fire before noon on Thursday. Firefighters, both from the airport and from Prague, responded to the scene. The fire was extinguished around noon. “Our units left the scene, we handed the case over to our colleagues from the airport, who are still finishing up the remains of the electrical installation,” said Martin Kavka, a spokesman for the Prague fire department, regarding the intervention.

“At the moment we are determining the extent of the damage. Traffic at the airport was restored at 12:15 p.m.,” the airport said on Twitter after noon. Several flights had to be diverted by air traffic control to backup airports, for example to Brno. Arrivals and departures are now taking place on the other of Prague’s runways.
Traffic restrictions were also in place on the adjacent D7 highway, from where firefighters were fighting the fire.
