While they were made with sunflower oil for the Austrian and German markets, a product with palm oil was sold in Estonia, which, according to the packaging, sold for the same food. TK said it, inspector Marek Bartk spoke. Palm oil is cheaper than sunflower oil. The inspection ordered the manufacturer, Mondelez, to withdraw the food from the market. The company informed the inspection that it would collect it and deliver it to food banks.

The inspection set out to control the quality of the two products and from the end of May last year, when the deadline for the European Union countries to implement their first European directive banning this deceptive practice passed. So that the manufacturer is not allowed to sell the same product on the markets of different Polish countries with different composition. In some cases, it happened that apparently the same products from the same manufacturer, but in a different composition, were brought to the ground in the eastern block. Foodstuffs with cheaper and lower quality raw materials went to eastern countries in a fixed proportion.

The SZPI encountered the described incident in April this year. “At that time, the product was supplied to the market by the company Chipita CZ, which the company Mondelez controlled from the 1st year, so it can be said that it ‘instigated’ the fall, not caused it,” said Bartk.

Controlling the quality of food is one of the areas that the inspection focuses on. Since the detection of this deceptive unit is quite difficult, I have selected an assortment that is potentially problematic. The prohibited double quality of food can be assessed as one when “food placed on the market in the Czech Republic has a significant difference in composition or properties, unless this can be deduced from valid and objective facts and if the food is not provided with easily accessible and sufficient information about this different composition or properties “.
