We do not want an improvement in the situation in Gaza, but a long war, Hamas admitted

“With the attack on southern Israel on October 7, high officials wanted to comprehensively change the situation and return attention to the Palestinian issue. And above all, they want a long war,” he said, according to Hajá newspaper.

“Changing the situation required a major action, and it had to be clear to everyone that the reaction to it would be serious. But we had to tell the world that the Palestinian issue has not gone away,” he added.

Like other Hamas leaders, he denied that the movement wanted to rule Gaza and “deal with the supply of water, electricity and the like.”

“This fight is not because we want to get oil or manpower. And we are not even looking for an improvement in the situation in Gaza. We want a total change in conditions,” he explained.

Táhir Nunu, a media consultant for Hamas, who participated in negotiations for the movement to settle previous conflicts with Israel, which were mostly mediated by Egypt, also stands for the “endless conflict”.

“I hope that the state of war with Israel will become permanent on all borders and that the Arab world will stand by us,” he said.

Israel launched a massive bombardment of the Palestinian enclave in response to the October 7 massacre, when Hamas terrorists killed 1,400 people and dragged more than two hundred more hostage from the Gaza Strip. He later added a ground operation.

According to Hamas, it wreaked havoc across the Strip and killed 10,569 Palestinians, including 4,324 children. The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas, also reported that 26,457 people were injured in the Israeli strikes. These numbers cannot be independently verified.
