“As horrifying reports of repeated attacks on the hospital continue to emerge, we assume our contacts have joined the tens of thousands of displaced people fleeing the area,” https://twitter.com/WHOEMRO/status/1723499352260296956 WHO.

Fierce fighting between Israeli soldiers and Palestinians rages around the Shifa hospital. The Israeli military claims that the Palestinian terrorist movement Hamas is using civilians as human shields and hiding its infrastructure in and under the hospital. Both Hamas and the staff of the hospital, which had to suspend operations due to the critical situation, reject these claims. However, information from the war zone cannot be immediately independently verified.

‘Reduce Suffering’

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus at X https://twitter.com/DrTedros/status/1723503274806898888, that according to the latest information, Israeli tanks surrounded the hospital. According to him, there are also reports that some of the people who left the hospital were shot and lost their lives.

Tedros expressed concern for the fate of health workers and patients and renewed calls for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, which he sees as the only way “to save lives and reduce the appalling level of suffering”.

Israel has so far rejected the conclusion of a truce and demands that Hamas release the roughly 240 hostages it dragged into Gaza during the attack on Israel on October 7.

In order to improve the very complex humanitarian situation in Gaza, where 2.3 million Palestinians live in an area smaller than Prague, at least a little better, Jordan dropped air aid for its field hospital in the area for the second time.
