Ester Ledecka’s return to the skiing World Cup is postponed. Because of the strong wind, the initial descent from Switzerland to Italy in the vicinity of the Matterhorn was cancelled. The organizers hesitated to cancel the race for a long time and only called it off an hour before the race inspection of the track. When Ester Ledecká was returning from preparation for the planned start, she was interviewed by a reporter from Radiožurnál Sport.

Ester, how were the conditions at the start?
I wasn’t quite at the start because we didn’t even make it. We went to see the track, but the middle gondola was very slow. Before we went up, they already informed us that the race was cancelled. You can’t even ride freely anywhere, so I went straight down and I’m going to ride here on the lower floors.

Listen to skier Ester Ledecká after the canceled downhill in Cervinia

At least you tried Thursday’s training. You looked excited after the finish, so how was it on the track?
It was very nice and quite intense for me after a year and a half when I didn’t ride any downhill. Suddenly it was strange and I enjoyed it a lot. I really like the hill, that’s why I was looking forward to today. Nothing can be done about the weather.

We are standing in the intermediate station of the cable car, where it doesn’t look too bad. What did you see?
It’s cool here, but I recommend going to the target area where you can record the sound of the wind. From the last pole of the gondola towards the end, it quite waves you. I think that on the last jump we would probably have a decent run. I can’t even imagine what it looked like up there, because there were only boys there.

Have you at least tested the new skis here, do they still work on the racing slope?
It works well. Otherwise, it is very difficult to estimate because the wind was blowing. On the flat, the differences were big and I don’t know if it was the grease, the skis, the wind, many factors play a role there. I was satisfied with the skis, I rode well and we will definitely test other skis. We will definitely have time for that before the race in St. Moritz.
