According to the Italian Antimonopoly Authority, the element of appeal is used in distribution and marketing to increase the attractiveness and sales of the product, which leads especially young consumers to disregard the usual rules of caution, writes Corriere della Sera.

According to the newspaper, the Italian consumer protection organization UNC believes that the conditions are there for the authority to decide to temporarily stop the sale of chips in Italy. In the spring, Hot Chip Challenge chips were withdrawn from sale by a supermarket in France due to safety concerns.

The management of HOT-CHIP, which makes the chips, said at the time that the product was not withdrawn from sale based on non-compliance with the legislation, but only after a decision by the branch manager.

“As a food company, we have of course been inspected several times by the State Agricultural and Food Inspection and the Ministry of Agriculture, which proved that our products meet all the obligations of a food company. We are aware of the hotness of the peppers used in the Hot Chip Challenge product and have therefore consulted this product with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Department of Safety, who, in consultation with other EU Member States, have stated that this is an ingredient that can be normally used in food ,” the company said in its written statement at the time.
