Mobile of 2023: Choose the best and win one of three excellent smartphones

In the main category Mobile of the year 2023, the public votes for the best mobile phone that was introduced to the Czech market (began to be officially sold) between November 30, 2022 and November 15, 2023. The Mobil.iDNES.cz editors nominated 21 devices from the best or the most popular models of individual brands that are officially sold on the Czech market.

Every voter can assign three votes to your favourites. The survey runs from November 20, 2023 to midnight December 10, 2023 (11:59 p.m.). The other poll categories will be announced by an expert jury from the nominated devices. Voting results will be published on the Mobil.iDNES.cz website no later than December 12, 2023. This year, you will be choosing the best mobile phone of the year on the Mobil.iDNES.cz website for the twenty-sixth time. Once upon a time, they were ordinary mobile phones, today, other than smart phones do not appear in the survey. The current market is stabilized. Globally and in the Czech Republic, it is dominated by Samsung, Apple and Xiaomi. Worldwide, they account for more than half of the market, in the Czech Republic even more.

Win one of three great smartphones

This year, voters in the Mobile of the Year 2023 poll can win one of the three smartphones that the iDNES.cz editors donated to the poll. All readers who vote in the main category will be entered into the prize draw.

The main prize is Samsung Galaxy A54 8/256GBthe other two drawn will win Motorola Moto G54 5G Power Edition 12/256 GB. The phones have very good equipment, an excellent display, an optically stabilized camera and also support eSIM, a service that is very useful today when traveling abroad outside the EU.

In the premium category, from which we primarily select devices for the Mobile of the Year poll, Samsung and Apple have dominated for a long time. In recent years, however, there has been an increase in the number of well-equipped devices from Chinese brands. However, the catch is that many of them will not look at the global markets, they remain available only to Chinese customers. Of course, the survey only includes devices that are sold on the Czech market.

Compared to last year, the economic situation has calmed down. Inflation forced manufacturers to raise prices, which the extremely competitive market did not allow. So they proceeded to steal the equipment, which also affected some models from the beginning of this year. Usually in the lower price categories, but today it is probably over.

Voting by the expert jury

As part of the vote of the expert jury, we have updated the categories. Traditionally, we look for a phone with the best performance-price ratio. Even a fairly cheap device can succeed here. On the contrary, in the category “Beast of the year” we are looking for a powerful phone, or rather the most powerful one. Because some of the customers care a lot about performance.

The Byproduct of the Year category is very strong this year, which includes smart watches, interesting accessories, and we also included interesting tablets in it. In their case, quite interesting models with a large display appeared on the market this year, but also at a very favorable price.

Historic winners

And here are the winning smartphones from past years of the poll. In 2007, the winner was the Nokia N95, i.e. a representative of the old smartphones without a touch screen. This was followed by three victories for Apple with the iPhones 3G, 3GS and 4. The dominance of iPhones was broken only by Samsung with the Galaxy S II model in 2011, in 2012 its successor the Galaxy S III won, and in 2013 the Galaxy S4 completed the hat trick.

In 2014, the vote of Mobil.iDNES.cz readers was won by the Apple iPhone 6. The next three years, Samsung won: in 2015, the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge (edge+), followed by the victory of the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, and in 2017 you chose Samsung as the best smartphone of the year Galaxy S8. The winner for 2018 is the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, in 2019 you chose the Samsung Galaxy Note 10, in 2020 the iPhone 12 Pro (Max) won, and the year before last Apple’s championship was defended by the iPhone 13 Pro (Max). The successor to the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) completed the hat trick last year.
