“We have a choice. Either the Russian army will remain defeated beyond the borders of Ukraine, or we will have it in the role of a winner on the borders of Poland,” Sikorski, considered one of the sharpest critics of Moscow, warned in an interview with the German daily Bild.

“Putin would then do the same thing that Hitler did with Czechoslovakia: he would seize Ukraine’s industry and people and mobilize them to continue his campaign,” added Sikorski. According to him, “it will be better” to stop Putin in Ukraine, hundreds of kilometers to the east.

The minister does not rule out a possible Russian attack on Poland. In the last 500 years, Russia has done this many times, so it would not be a surprise. “But Russia would lose because we, as the West, are much stronger. And even Ukraine is not fighting alone today,” the minister continued.

Sikorski does not see the current situation of Ukrainians as negatively as many others. “Wars never go in just one direction. The tide turns, it changes. He reminded that Ukraine regained large areas last year. At the same time, he admitted that the Russians had regained the initiative this year.

According to the Polish minister, he does not believe that the Russians would use nuclear weapons in Ukraine. “There are no physical signs that they removed the warheads from storage. We would have known in advance,” assured Sikorski.
