Who will become the new minister for science and research? Two candidates are already known. They are MP and TOP 09 deputy chairman Matěj Ondřej Havel and emeritus rector of the University of Silesia in Opava Pavel Tuleja.

TOP 09 vice-chairman Vlastimil Válek confirmed that he is choosing among these candidates as well.

“This is one of the names we potentially discussed,” Válek confirmed in Questions to Václav Moravec Válek.

According to him, there are four names in the shortlist – three men and one woman.

“I assume that on Monday we will be almost clear,” added Válek.

Cancellation is also an option

But Válek did not want to specify who is his favorite for the vacant post. According to previous information, the TOP 09 presidency will propose a new minister next week.

However, Minister of Health and Deputy Prime Minister Válek admitted that TOP 09 also discussed whether the post in the government as such should be abolished. The Minister for Science, Research and Innovation does not lead a separate ministry, but only a department at the Government Office. By the way, it doesn’t even have its own budget.

As Seznam Zprávy reported already at the beginning of April, there has been dissatisfaction in TOP 09 with Helena Langšádlová in the position of Minister for Science, Research and Innovation for a long time. The party blamed her for poor communication. According to critics, she also lacked competence and authority.
