America’s Tesla is not selling electric cars as it would like to imagine, and in response to poor business results, it is making mass layoffs. And it will have an impact on charging as well.
Electric car Tesla shocks the world with another controversial step. The American manufacturer of electric cars also helped its business success by building a global network of Tesla Suercharger chargers, which it expanded to almost all corners of the world and managed to cover all critical locations. A big attraction for buying an electric Tesla in the past was free lifetime charging.
Until recently, the Tesla Supercharger network was reserved only for Tesla electric car operators, but in the middle of April this year, the manufacturer released it for charging all other electric cars with a compatible connector, which in Europe is the CCS 2 Combo type. And just shortly after a significant step to expand the charging network for all electric cars, there is some surprising news.
Tesla has decided to dissolve the entire “Supercharger team”, which in the past was responsible for building and expanding the network of charging stations. The news comes shortly after Tesla announced a few weeks ago that it would lay off a tenth of its employees in response to troubling business results for the first quarter of this year. It is a direct response to the slowdown in sales of the brand’s electric cars.
However, the dissolution of the team working on the brand’s chargers has a much greater impact than it might seem at first. Tesla is working with a plan to complete all newly built charging points, but it does not yet have plans for how to proceed. And without his dedicated team, he probably won’t build much anymore because he’s laying off all of the 500 or so workers involved.
In the United States, Tesla is reportedly getting rid of some leased land on which it originally planned to build additional charging stations. Worldwide, Tesla operates a total of 6,249 Tesla Supercharger charging points.
