The Ukrainian parliament authorized the mobilization of prisoners

--

Members of the Ukrainian parliament approved a law according to which it is possible to mobilize some prisoners into the armed forces. According to the Unian agency, Ukrainian MP Jaroslav Železňak informed about this on the Telegram social network. The punishment of those who will participate in combat actions will be changed to a condition. But there are exceptions for convicts who cannot be mobilized.

Those convicted of murder, rape or crimes against national security are out of luck. According to the newly approved norm, which allows the mobilization of prisoners, the defense of Ukraine by these convicts is not allowed. Others who are convicted of minor crimes but mobilized will be able to be. The norm was supported by 279 deputies, according to Železňak, no one was against.

The law envisages that in times of mobilization or a state of war, courts will be able to parole prisoners for military service on the basis of a contract. Today, the Verkhovna Rada, i.e. the Ukrainian parliament, also approved the extension of the mobilization for another 90 days, that is until August 11. It also extended martial law. According to Železňak, this has happened for the eleventh time.

The standard should help replenish Ukrainian troops and replace soldiers exhausted after two years of fighting against the Russian invasion army, Reuters reported.

Immediately after Russian troops invaded the country on February 24, 2022, many Ukrainians voluntarily joined the army to defend their homeland. However, after two years of war, queues are no longer formed in front of military centers and many men rather try to avoid fighting, the Reuters agency wrote earlier.

Neither side of the conflict officially publishes its military losses. But estimates speak of high losses on both sides of the front line.
