The Russians call the attack a “provocation” intended to disrupt a planned visit by a delegation from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). It is supposed to arrive at the nuclear facility in the next few hours, but according to the Ukrainian authorities, part of it had to interrupt the journey for security reasons.

“For security reasons, the advanced UN team cannot continue,” wrote Oleksandr Staruch, the governor of Ukraine’s Zaporozhye region. ATled that Russian forces were shelling a pre-arranged route along which inspectors from the IAEA were supposed to arrive at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.

The information of Russian agencies about the Ukrainian military presence on the occupied bank of the Dnieper could not be verified from independent sources, Kyiv has not yet commented on this claim.
