If you haven’t been in the city for the past quarter of a century, it’s unlikely you’ve heard the word Google. The services of American characters have mastered the Internet and have a foothold outside of it as well. Make life easier and easier for us every day, and even the phrase googling it has become a synonym for searching on the Internet. In 2006, the verb googlit even appeared in the Oxford English Dictionary. Even though the arrest signs were not completely easy, their founders very quickly managed to build a successful technology company, which at the end of the 90s was a pioneer of Internet search technology.
The year was 1998. In January, the online news portal iDNES.cz was launched and Vclav Havel was elected president of the Czech Republic for a second term. In Norway, after that, the ice hockey players won gold medals at the Winter Olympic Games in Nagano. In the middle of the year, in the last parliamentary elections, the SSD first became stronger. It was the year when American President Bill Clinton lied on television about his relationship with Monica Lewinska, or when the wolf outbreak broke out in Kosovo. In the worst German railway accident in Eschede, 101 people died and 88 were injured, and the highly popular sitcom Sex in the City began to air in the US. This is how the Microsoft company started when it launched the popular Windows 98 operating system. And it was also the year when the Google logo began to make its history.
Google website in December 1998
Specifically, on the 4th of 1998, the world began to learn about this technological giant. It was created by two students from Stanford University in California, Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Since 2015, the Google logo has been part of Alphabet’s portfolio (learn more about the creation of the holding here)
The creation of Google was the result of an effort to improve the search engine on the Internet. At that time, there were many web searches, but they did not provide enough relevant results. They were named according to the number of times the search term appears on a given page.
Call Google first
The name Google was created in 1997, when the two founders created a unique web search engine technology called PageRank, which analyzed the number of links to websites (so-called backlinks) to determine a ranked website. The company itself was founded by a friend, student Susan Wojcic, who became their first marketing editor and designed the Google logo.
Larry Page and Sergey Brin originally called the new sweat-rated backlink technology BackRub. When they were looking for a better name, they came to Googol. Instead of this name, there was a Google name in the address book by mistake, and this house was free and fell in love with them. The name Google thus comes from the word Googol, denoting a word composed of ones, followed by one hundred zeros (10100). This mathematical term was first used in 1938 by the nine-year-old Milton Sirrota, the nephew of the American mathematician Edward Kasner.

Why was the name first given to a word that means a huge body? According to the available information, because the goal of Larry Page and Sergey Brin was to make a huge amount of information available to the whole world. Which perfectly fits first this term. And since it was a new name, not an old one, Google.com was the obvious choice. The registration was on the 15th of 1997.
So how much is Googol?
The term Googol requires an absurdly large word 10100, 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 ‘ I know the world. According to world-renowned astronomer Carl Sagan, the total number of elementary stars in the observable universe is about 10 and the 80th power of ten.
Currently, there are only about 1,979,000,000 web pages in the world. Also, Google will never, really never fill its own bag in the foreseeable future, or rather it will not index the number of pages hidden behind salt containing Googol. In addition, the brilliant mathematician Kasner introduced the term Googolplex, which can be imagined as a one with Googol zeros. So far, Googolplex has paid for the most named slo.
