The newly appointed head of the Russian space agency Roskosmos let it be known that the International Space Station (ISS) is slowly but surely turning into a piece of unusable junk.
“Technically speaking, the ISS has already extended all its warranty periods. This is dangerous,” said Yuri Borisov. “An avalanche process of equipment failure begins, cracks appear.”
Recall that in July, Russia published more details about its plans to build its own space station. This happened shortly after it announced its intention to leave the ISS sometime after 2024.
“We’re looking for friendlier partners!”
Despite the fact that the political relations between the USA and Russia are still deteriorating, the cooperation of the two named countries on the ISS has been going on without any problems so far. But now Reuters has reported that Russia is looking for “friendlier” partners.
According to Borisov, the main reason is the economic sanctions that the West imposed on his country due to the invasion of Ukraine, as well as other things – for example, the fact that the European Space Agency (ESA) decided to cancel its participation in the ExoMars mission.
“There has been a huge amount of effort and huge sums of money put into this… but has politics intervened and what is the result? It shouldn’t be like this, it’s wrong,” Borisov complained.
