The incident happened shortly after eleven o’clock at the railway station Ostrava sted. I can confirm that the train was running on red. The train driver who did so realized his mistake and started to brake. At the same time, the general stop function was used, says Railway Firsts Nela Eberl Friebov.
A general stop is a system that allows the dispatcher or the operator to stop a train or trains in a specified area for a long time in the event of an imminent accident.
The passenger train, which was not supposed to continue, pulled into the nearby Ostrava – Stodoln stop, where another passenger train was standing on the same track. Both trains went to Ostrava’s main railway station, so they followed each other. They are located roughly a hundred meters apart, and there are good viewing conditions for the city, pointed out the spokeswoman of the First Railways.
She added that limited traffic was maintained in the city. According to witnesses, for example, one connection running between Opava and the Czech Tne was destroyed, when due to the extraordinary situation on the track, the traffic light gradually increased from below and lasted for seventy minutes. The circumstances of the occurrence of the event are relevant in the future, Friebov said.
Last week, a very dangerous situation happened on the main railway corridor. Near the Hotejn station on Umperska, only a few hundred meters were missing from the heart when the Pendolino and the oncoming passenger train reached the same track. Due to the interference of the train drivers, they stopped less than ten meters apart, the mistake was probably made by the train dispatcher (details here).
