Moscow – Russia has no information that the diversion of the Nord Stream gas pipelines, which are supposed to bring Russian gas to Germany via the bottom of the Baltic Sea, was organized by Western secret services, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, said on Russian television. At the same time, however, he claimed that Western secret services had previously dealt with damage to gas pipelines by explosions, the Kommersant newspaper reported on its website.

“We don’t have such data (on the involvement of Western secret services), but we have information that they did it before. We will announce it after some time,” Patrushev said, according to TASS, adding that he meant “explosions of gas pipelines.” “I’m not going to call it right now, but they were looking into it,” he said, without specifying what the incidents were.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that the explosions on the gas pipelines were organized by “Anglo-Saxons” who, in his opinion, “started to destroy the European energy infrastructure”. US President Joe Biden dismissed Putin’s statement as disinformation and a lie.

Even before Putin’s speech, the Kremlin called for an international investigation into the explosions that damaged the Nord Stream pipeline. According to the TASS agency, however, the spokesman for the Russian president left unanswered the question of whether Russia is willing to share the alleged evidence, which, according to the head of the Russian SVR civilian intelligence, Sergei Naryshkin, testifies to the Western footprint in these events.

Naryshkin previously spoke to reporters about evidence that the West was behind the attacks against the gas pipelines, but did not specify what evidence Russia has.

“We already have certain materials that point to a Western footprint in the organization and execution of this terrorist act,” Naryshkin said. “In my opinion, the West is doing everything to hide the real perpetrators and organizers of this international terrorist act,” he added.

Leaks from the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines were reported this week by the Danish and Swedish authorities. According to the European Union and politicians from individual European countries, deliberate attacks are behind the damage to gas pipelines. However, it is not yet clear what exactly caused the damage. Russia denied that it was responsible for the damage, instead citing the United States. The Kremlin has described as “absurd” Ukraine’s accusation that Moscow is destroying its infrastructure to deepen the energy crisis in Europe and cause panic in the West ahead of winter.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Thursday that the North Atlantic alliance would respond with unity and force to any deliberate attack against the allies’ critical infrastructure. According to Stoltenberg, the damage to the Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea causes deep concern.
