The accident happened around 7:30 in the evening. About two dozen police officers, firefighters, mountain services and rescuers arrived at the site for intervention, the Süddeutsche Zeitung server reported with reference to the German agency DPA.

The operator of the center has suspended operations on the track with immediate effect. Competitions and training sessions planned for Friday are therefore cancelled, said Ronny Knoll, head of public relations for the Thuringia Winter Sports Centre.

“There are other things in the foreground now. Sport receded into the background,” explained Knoll, according to Focus.de.

“The visiting bobsledder drove into two inflatable rings in the finish area,” Knoll told the German press agency. According to Der Spiegel, it was a four-figure sum.

One person in the circle succumbed to his injuries. Another suffered serious injuries. Two people in the guest bobsled, driven by a professional, suffered minor injuries and were treated at a clinic.

The track in Oberhof hosted the world championship at the end of January. However, the place is also used for guest events. They can race on bobsleighs controlled by a professional or go down the ice track on inflatable rings.
