It was not good for Baník footballers under several hundred of the most loyal. “It was not pleasant. If we don’t advance, even though we play at home and are the favorites in the match, it’s clear that they’re upset,” Jiří Boula muttered.
“It was one of the most important games of the autumn, but in the cup everyone is important. If we hadn’t advanced in Zapá before that… Simply, every cup match is important,” Baník’s midfielder struggled to find words.
The only goal of the match was scored by Rudolf Reiter from Exostrava at the end of the first half. And after the match, looking at the dejected home football players, he was very happy that this time he belonged to the winning side. “I played here, I know the pressure Baník fans can create. They played well now, they didn’t do well at home with Jablonec and now with us, and they are already going after them like this. I’m not here anymore, so I don’t want to evaluate it,” he smiled.
“I also experienced it here and I remembered when we didn’t do well and the fans booed us,” said coach Bronislav Červenka, who recently replaced the sacked Pavel Vrba on the Zlín bench. “It’s not easy here for the players, but it’s not easy for the coaches either. On the other hand, the local fans give them a lot of support, but they want a win. Baník had a decent streak, I believe he will bounce back from two unsuccessful matches,” said Červenka, who once started coaching in Ostrava as Radim Kučera’s assistant.
A lot of anger was once again aimed at the head of coach Pavel Hapal. “It’s not pleasant, the fans want to see us win. This was the path to the European Cups, Baník has been waiting for them for a long time, and here we could get into the last eight,” Hapal understood them.
And he returned to the words he had uttered at the beginning of autumn. “This team still needs some time because it is new. I think it has shown its quality in previous matches. I believe we will get back to it,” he pointed to a streak of seven league and two cup games without defeat.
But then came Jablonec, Zlín and on Sunday the Ostravas are waiting for the improving Karviná, who last beat Pilsen on their field. And in less than two weeks, Sparta will come to Ostrava for a closely watched match.
“I believe that we will recover from this, we played well now, we were winning. In addition, I think that the performance can be relied on, it wasn’t that bad. On the contrary, the desire is there, the players work until the last minute of the matches, but maybe sometimes we need more luck, like we had in Teplice, and score a dirty goal,” reflected Hapal.
“We have a problem when we have to play in the block, you can see it. If the team fits us and defends well, then it’s a problem. We don’t get a lot of goals, but there wasn’t much up front. Neither the centers, although we had a tall striker there (Almás). And when the center did come, it was absolutely inaccurate. We are struggling in the final,” admitted Hapal.
