Mercedes reserve driver Mick Schumacher has stated that he is not interested in racing in electric Formula E.
After two years in the role of racing driver for the Haas team in Formula 1, this year Mick Schumacher acts as a reserve driver for Mercedes, which he also helps on the simulator.
Given that Schumacher probably won’t get a racing seat in F1 even for next year, speculation is abounding about where his next steps will lead.
A likely option is Schumacher’s participation in the FIA WEC series, i.e. the endurance racing championship, where the 2020 F2 winner could defend the colors of the Alpine team, whose hypercar category he recently tested in Jerez. He could still hold the position of reserve at Mercedes in F1.
In any case, the young German is most likely not going to Formula E, which is otherwise a popular destination for drivers who have lost their engagement in Formula 1. The reason is clear – electric formulas are not to Schumacher’s taste.
“Would I appreciate the Formula E experience? I will be very honest with you and tell you no,” said Mick Schumacher in an interview with Tuttomotoriweb.it.
“I like engines, I like petrol, so definitely not this,” said the son of the seven-time F1 champion.
“But who knows what awaits us in the future? Maybe I could change my expectations too…Anyway, I like old school cars and everything that goes with it, ie V8s and the smell and stuff. That’s what interests me,” added the 24-year-old German.
