The 22-year-old striker Jonáš Peterek has terminated his contract with the second division Finnish team Joensua at his own request, his next steps are directed to the Czech Republic. Where exactly is not yet known.
Peterek went to Finland before the 2022/2023 season. Until then, he tried in vain to make it into the starting line-up of extra-league Třinec, playing exclusively at their first-league farm in Frýdek-Místek.
And so the 188-centimeter-tall center went on to improve in hockey to the second highest Finnish competition. Last year in Hermes, he scored 41 points (19+22) in 57 games, this year after moving to JoKP, he shined even more: in the opening fourteen games of the season, he collected eighteen points (7+11) and was fifth in Mestis productivity.
“Jonáš’s goal for this season was to move to the next level. Now such an opportunity has really arisen, a little earlier than expected,” explains Jaakko Lipponen, club manager of the team from Joensuu.
“Jonáš’s goal for this season was to move to the next level. Now the opportunity has really come.”
Nevertheless, he did not prevent Peterko’s departure. “The goal of our club is to develop young players and move them forward in their careers,” he explains. “From Jonáš’s point of view, it’s great that he will get the opportunity to show himself and measure his potential.”
Now the question is where the former youth representative will go. Let us remind you that before leaving for Finland, he combined his career with his mother’s Havířov and nearby Třinec, where his father Jan Peterek is the sports director.
