Now fifty-one years old, Jgr has played for Pittsburgh since 1990 for eleven of the total of 24 seasons in the NHL. In 1991 and 1992, he helped the Penguins to win the first two Stanley Cups in the club’s history, and he was its captain in the dark.
Tributes in the form of a ceremonial tying of the jersey to Jgr, who still hasn’t finished his career, as the fourth Czech hockey player in the NHL. In 2015, Dominik Hak was honored in this way by Buffalo, and since 2018, Milan Hejduk in Colorado and Patrik Elio in New Jersey have been hanging from the ceiling of the hall.
The Penguins announced the tying of Jjr’s jersey, among other things, with a video on social media X, which proudly captures the moment when Kladno’s native invites the club to a festive ceremony. Pittsburgh? Eighth hole? Dobe, I’ll be there, to Jgr on the phone and then turn to the camera and tell the fans: Pittsburgh, I’m coming home.
The Penguins selected the future NHL star in the 1990 draft in the first round as the fifth overall pick. In the jersey with fat on his chest, Jgr played 806 games and scored 1079 points (439+640). In club history, he is among the top five in games played (5th), goals scored (4th), assists (4th), points (4th), rated plus/minus (2nd) and goals scored (4th). He was one of the 13 captains of the club, which he wore in the years 1998-2001.

In his first two seasons in the NHL, the young Jgr helped Pittsburgh win two Stanley Cups. He played in the playoffs for the first time in 1992, where he scored 24 points (11+13) in 21 games. Jgr played a total of 208 games in tie-breakers and scored 201 points (78+123). It is one of six games in NHL history in which they reached the 200-point mark in the playoffs.
During his time in Pittsburgh, Jgr won all five of his Art Ross Trophies for the most productive player in the league, and in 1999 he received the Hart Trophy for the best hockey player of the NHL season.
After leaving Pittsburgh in 2001, the star right winger played in the NHL for Washington, New York Rangers, Philadelphia, Dallas, Boston, New Jersey, Florida and Calgary, in his jersey at the beginning of 2018, he ended his career in an elite match. He played 1733 games and collected 1921 points for 766 goals and 1155 assists. He is the second most productive game behind the underachieving Wayne Gretzky (2,857), fourth in passes and steals, and fifth in assists. His 135 goals are an absolute NHL record.
Together with Jim Lgr, Jgr is one of the two members of the so-called Triple Gold Club. Jgr was among them thanks to his Stanley Cup victory with Pittsburgh, winning gold medals from the World Cup (2005 and 2010) and the historic triumph at the Olympic Games in Nagano in 1998.
After finishing his career in the NHL, Jgr played in his mother club Ryti Kladno, which he is the owner of. The last time he appeared in the game was last season on April 21, when the young hockey player played extra-league in a bar with Zln.
