When the referee started the Albanian league clash between Egnatia and Partizani, no one knew that the direct battle for the top of the table would end in the 24th minute. At that moment, the 28-year-old home striker Raphale Dwamena collapsed.
His teammates and opponents immediately rushed to his aid, and the ambulance took him to the hospital. But it was too late, the doctors could not save the former Levante or Zurich player.
For years, Dwamena boarded with a congenital heart defect. He had a move to the Premier League in 2017, but Brighton decided not to sign the player after a medical. Three years later, he had a cardioverter-defibrillator operated on, only to have it removed.
It wasn’t the first time Dwamen had collapsed. For the first time in October 2021 in the jersey of the Austrian Linz during the cup match there. Then he finished the match, on Sunday the consequences were already tragic. Doctors advised Dwamen to end his active career due to heart problems in the past, but the former Ghana international continued to play.
In the current season, he scored nine goals, for example one more than the former Sparta or Slavia player Bekim Balaj from the Vllaznia team. However, he will not add another one. The duel between Egnatia and Partizani has not been completed, and the next match of the highest Albanian league will not take place this weekend.
