Detailed coverage of the EuroBasket 2025 qualification match

“With Germany, we set the bar very low and we had to show that we can play much better, but we didn’t feel like it. We shoot an awful lot of threes and we don’t have anything from the box,” Voráčková told reporters after the game.

While Greece converted 12 out of 25 three-point attempts, the Czech team only made six out of 30. “The coach told us that we have a lot of three-pointers and we need other options as well. If it doesn’t fall out of it, there’s no point in continuing to burn it. We had a rebound and that led to more threes. We were supposed to end it inside, but unfortunately we didn’t succeed,” said Voráčková.

The Czechs took the lead three times in the beginning thanks to baskets by Stoupalová, Voráčková and a triple by Pospíšilová, but the home basketball players turned from 5:7 to 11:7. After 12 seconds of her debut in the national team, Karolína Šotolová scored and Stoupalová equalized with two successful free throws. However, Greece escaped to an 18:11 lead by the end of the first quarter.

In the second ten-minute period, the Czechs recovered the loss and turned from 20:24 to 26:24. Coach Ptáčková’s team then led 29:28 after Kateřina Galíčková’s three-pointer, but the home team responded with an eight-point streak. By halftime, Kateřina Rokošová reduced the score to 34:37 from a distance.

Veronika Voráčková in the qualification for EuroBasket

In the third quarter, the Stoupals tied the score at 42:42 in quick succession after the Czech Republic scored five points, but Christinakiová refused to turn the score around with a three-pointer. Between the 25th and 27th minutes, Greece gained a 56:44 lead with a ten-point streak. Stoupalová’s three-pointer and a basket with a converted free throw by Gabriela Andělová got the score below double digits.

In the final quarter, the Czech team came close three times with a difference of five points, but the home basketball players kept the win. Compared to the duel with Germany, the Czechs gave an improved performance. “There was definitely respect with the Germans, that they came with a team full of stars. We told each other where the problem was. I don’t want to blur it out completely. I hope we looked better today,” said Voráčková.
