The American forward entered the season like a hurricane, so it was no surprise when he was nominated for the NHL All-Star Game. However, an injury will not allow the middle of the Hughes brothers to start, but he will appear in Toronto.

Jack Hughes had a great start to the season, scoring twice as many Canadian points in the first ten games. However, at the beginning of November, he was slowed down by an injury in the upper body, due to which he missed five duels. After his return, however, he was rampant again and was an important part of the Devils’ offense. However, after the New Year came other health problems that sidelined the New Jersey star for a much longer period of time.

“He’s doing well mentally. He feels good physically. He’s getting better every day, and that’s the most important thing. But I don’t have a time frame for his return,” New Jersey general manager Tom Fitzgerald said before the All-Star break.

Health-wise, Hughes is better, but he’s still far from game pace, so he won’t be running around on the ice during All-Star weekend, but he’ll be keeping a close eye on his team from the bench. He is the co-captain of the Hughes team together with his older brother Quinn. The celebrity captain will be singer Michael Bublé.

In the All-Star Game itself, the American striker will be replaced by his teammate from New Jersey Jesper Bratt, for whom it will be his first participation in the All-Star weekend. The Swedish forward currently leads the productivity of his team with 50 Canadian points in 47 duels. However, the Devils are currently dealing with a rather extensive mess, especially in the defensive ranks, where Hamilton, Smith and Siegenthaler are missing. In addition to Hughes, Tomáš Nosek is also missing from the attack.

Mathew Barzal of the Islanders will replace Jack Hughes in the skills contests. The Canadian forward is having a very good year, he is second in team productivity with 51 Canadian points, just one point behind leader Noah Dobson.

The All-Star weekend starts on the night from Thursday to Friday, when a special program will take place, including the draft of players for individual teams. Skills competitions will take place in the early hours of the morning on Saturday, and the whole weekend will culminate with the All-Star Game, which is scheduled for Saturday from 21:00 CET.
