Everton’s situation is not ideal at all. Due to financial problems, the Liverpool team has already lost six points in the current season of the Premier League and can now fear another reading. In their latest financial statements, the Toffees announced another loss of £89.1 million (2.63 billion crowns) for the 2022/23 competition year. Any further penalty can have a significant impact on the fight to stay among the English elite, as Everton are currently separated from the 18th place by only three points.

Everton’s loss increased significantly compared to the 2021/22 season, when the financial close showed a deficit of £44.7m. This time it’s almost twice as much. The Goodison Park club have blamed the increased loss on the indefinite suspension of sponsorship deals with key business partners.

The latest news of the Toffees’ losses, linked to a major investment in a new stadium, comes at a time when their finances are under scrutiny. They are due to hear the verdict on the second charge of breaching the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules by April 8. In addition to the six points already lost, the club could be hit with another deduction. Under PSR rules, clubs can lose a maximum of £105m over three seasons or £35m in one season, or face sanctions.

Everton, who lost to Bournemouth on Saturday, are currently 16th in the English top flight table. With nine games to go, Sean Dyche’s side are just three points above the relegation zone.
