The dominoes have started. The famous Feynoord can be led by a coach who almost got relegated with Slavia

--

You might still remember it. Longer hair. An elegant man who wore a tie. Vladimír Šmicer acted as his assistant and interpreter. Pastoor stayed in Slavia for a quarter of a year and only after a combination of other results in the final league round with them in May 2014 did he not relegate from the top league.

It would be a blip on his coaching resume.

But Pastor’s career developed interestingly after leaving Eden. From the end of 2021, in his native Netherlands, Almere City leads. The provincial team with a small stadium made it to the top competition, in which his team should be able to stay without much trouble.

Last week, the 57-year-old Pastoor announced that he would say goodbye to Almere after the season. And in the Netherlands, they are getting together that this could be an indication of a move to the coaching spot in Feynoord, which will soon be vacated by the successful and original coach Arne Slot.

This is reported by insiders and a public recommendation was given by, for example, Michel Breuer – a former player of Excelsior Rotterdam, where Pastoor also trained. “He was the best coach I ever had,” Breuer told Trouw. “As a coach, Alex has a clear vision from which he will not deviate. It also sets the bar high in all areas such as strength training, nutrition and regeneration.”

When you ask Breuer whether Pastoor could be promoted to the most famous Dutch addresses, he does not hesitate: “Ajax or Feyenoord? I see no reason why he could not be there.’

Slovakian and former Spartan Dávid Hancko or former Slavist Ondřej Lingr wear the red and white jersey. Feynoord is now in second place in the Dutch league behind unattainable PSV.

Experts object that Pastoor has no experience in managing a big club. They don’t count Slavia, because the team from Vršovice was led by the Dutch coach in dark times, when they were more like a dummy of a famous and proud brand.

A memory of the Czech Republic. Slavia Praha’s assistant coach Vladimír Šmicer (left) and former red and white head coach Alex Pastoor during the match in Mladá Boleslav.

“There was simply no money in Slavia at that time. The agreement with the Russian investor ended up collapsing, the team was not that strong, that’s why we struggled until the last round,” Pastoor recalled for iDNES.cz last year.

He also admitted in the interview that his son owns a season ticket to the famous De Kuip stadium and is a fan of Feynoord.

Soon his father could appear on his switch. According to sources, the club should sign Pastor for three seasons. Or will everything develop differently?
