A few days ago, speculation about the end of Adrian Newey at Red Bull was in full swing. An official announcement may come soon.

According to Motorsport.com, Newey has already tendered his official resignation. A statement from the Red Bull Racing team is expected to come soon – possibly before the start of the Miami Grand Prix.

Although the details of a possible separation are unknown, it is believed that Newey will remain in his role for the time being and leave Red Bull in early 2025 at the latest. Newey was to communicate the reasons for his decision in an internal letter.

Newey should be under contract until the end of next year and then go on leave to avoid taking sensitive data from the team elsewhere. However, the contract is one thing, the reality can be different.

Maranello direction?

Where will Newey go? He would have an almost home environment at Aston Martin. There is Dan Fallows, Honda, and he knows Aston Martin himself, who was a sponsor of Red Bull and with whom he worked on the Valkyrie hypercar. Additionally, the team’s factory is located in Great Britain.

But according to the BBC, Newey should rather head to Ferrari. “He got offers from Ferrari and Aston Martin. Sources close to him have told me he is seriously considering Ferrari but has no interest in going to Aston Martin,” writes the BBC’s Andrew Benson.

But Benson adds that he would not rule out another possibility. “Not every team could afford him. But the McLaren and Mercedes teams certainly could – and going there would be less disruptive for Newey from a domestic point of view, even if it wouldn’t have the romantic appeal of Ferrari.”

According to Benson, Newey’s departure will have an impact on Red Bull. “He will probably have an impact on the team he leaves and the team he chooses to join. Newey is rightly regarded as the best F1 constructor in history, so even if he is not in F1 full-time these days, he will have a huge impact on any team he joins and the loss cannot help but hurt the team he leaves.”
