Nottingham Forest have failed in their appeal against being deducted four points for breaching the Premier League’s financial rules. It was announced by the representatives of the league. In the remaining two rounds, the club will have to fight for survival in the highest English competition. In the table, with 29 points, they are in 17th place, three points above the relegation zone.
Nottingham were fined by the Premier League in mid-March for wrongdoing covering the period ending in the 2022/23 season. The management of the club admitted the wrongdoing and, according to the independent commission, fully cooperated during the investigation, but it failed to overturn the punishment.
The rules of profitability and sustainability allow clubs in the English league to lose 105 million pounds (three billion crowns) in three years. Nottingham only spent the 2022/23 season in the top flight, having played in the second division for the previous two years. He could thus afford a maximum loss of 61 million pounds, but exceeded the limit by 34.5 million.
Everton is also guilty of the same offense in this year’s Premier League, which, after an appeal, achieved a reduction of the penalty from ten points to six. His appeal was under review for more than three months.
