Tennis player Petra Kvitová went through to the 3rd round of the US Open without a fight, as her Ukrainian rival Anhelina Kalinin withdrew due to illness.
The world number 21 and top-seeded Czech Republic will challenge either compatriot Linda Fruhvirtová or Spain’s Garbiňa Muguruza in a duel for the round of 16.
The 32-year-old native of Bílovka, who initially eliminated Erika Andrejevová of Russia, is in the 3rd round of the US Open for the second time in a row.
Her best from the concrete courts at the Flushing Meadows Grand Slam are the quarterfinals in 2015 and 2017.
In addition to Fruhvirtová, Kateřina Siniaková will also compete against Alizá Cornetová from France, and last year’s quarter-finalist Karolína Plíšková and Marie Bouzková will compete in the Czech match.
