Manchester United was strengthened by the Brazilian winger Antony, who transferred to the English club from Ajax. The 22-year-old Brazilian signed a contract until 2027 with a one-year option. According to British media, United paid around 95 million euros (about 2.32 billion crowns) for Antony, which is the highest amount ever spent on the last day of the transfer window in the English league.
“I’ve had great years at Ajax, but this is a big moment in my career. I’m ready for a new challenge at one of the most famous clubs in the world.” said Antony for the website of the currently twelfth Premier League team.
The nine-time Brazilian international will start again under the leadership of coach Erik ten Hag, with whom he worked for the past two seasons in Ajax. “He has big plans and ambitions for Manchester. His style of football and coaching gets the best out of me.” Antony pointed out.
Last year’s Olympic champion played 82 competitive matches for Ajax, scoring 24 goals and setting up 22 for teammates. He previously played for Sao Paulo.
The “Red Devils” got another big boost after an unsuccessful start to the season at the end of the transfer period. After Paul Pogba, Antony became the second most expensive player in the club’s history, previously another Brazilian Casemiro came from Real Madrid for 70 million euros (1.7 billion crowns).
