There are loves that one will remember forever. Welshman Daniel White will probably never forget Courtney Davies, who he went to high school with. After two years, he decided to end the relationship, which he soon regretted. Shortly afterwards, the family won more than two billion crowns in the lottery.
Now 27-year-old Daniel White couldn’t suppress his regret over the fact that he decided to break up with his then-girlfriend Courtney Davies years ago. According to the Mirror, the couple dated in high school for two years until Daniel ended the relationship.
A few months later, the Courtney family made a fabulous fortune. She won more than 61 million pounds in the Euromillions, which at the average exchange rate in 2016 represented more than two billion crowns.
“My friends were texting me and making fun of me, asking me if I was cleared. One of them said, ‘Dude, how much have you cried since you found out?’ ” Daniel confided. “It was a school and teenage romance that just fizzled out. We had other interests and other friends,” commented Courtney’s split.
But he confided that the situation really took him down. “I hid my face in my hands,” he recalled. “I’m happy for them, but of course I feel like it could have been me,” he added.
News website WalesOnline, which reported the story at the time, discovered the ticket was bought by a mum to celebrate beating cancer. When she then won a huge amount, she divided the money among her relatives including her two daughters. Each of them received 12 million pounds (roughly 400 million crowns).
