Goalkeeper Jindřich Staněk is probably attracting the most attention in the West Bohemians squad at the moment. “He helped bring Pilsen to the Champions League and to the championship title, that’s just a great job, a great career,” acknowledges Hašek and then returns to the nine-year-old past.
“He was regarded as a huge talent at Sparta,” says the coach, who used the then 17-year-old Staňek in matches of the third highest league. However, he was not too satisfied with the performance of the goalkeeper.
“I don’t really remember Jindra ever holding us back, but I remember a lot of games when the goals went behind him and he sent us into a situation where we were without a point,” admits the former football representative with a distance.
“So at first he was a talent, but he didn’t fulfill it at all, then he still left Sparta for Everton,” he adds to the goalkeeper’s address.
So far, he perceives Aleš Čermák’s career as a little behind expectations. “That was an extraordinary talent, I would even say that he fulfilled it on the field, there I thought that he would achieve more in the top competition than he has so far,” assesses Hašek and adds an amusing story with Jan Sýkora, who also worked in the flight club reserve.
“I was wondering if he should play for me in the CFL and he came to ask me what he should do to play in the Bundesliga,” recounts Martin Hašek in the Přímák program.
