Miller stays! He signed with the Canucks for seven years

It was supposed to be a saga that would stretch from the summer through the entire season. Will JT Miller stay in Vancouver or go elsewhere? The first option won. The experienced American fighter signed a lucrative seven-year contract on Saturday night. He could thus remain an Orcas until the end of his career.

The 29-year-old fighter is entering the final year of his five-year contract, which he signed in 2018 with Tampa Bay. He could have become a free agent after the season, but that won’t happen.

He signed a new contract that will last seven years and will bring him a total of 56 million dollars. So he has eight million dollars a year. The big contract is the result of successful seasons, the most outstanding of which was the last one, in which he set new career highs in goals, assists and points.

“JT Miller is one of the best players in the league and we’re excited to be able to keep him for an extended period of time,” Vancouver general manager Patrik Allvin rubbed his hands. “His productivity last season speaks for itself and his desire to win is something others look up to. He will be a key player for years to come.”

All pink? Maybe now, but over the summer it was really sharpened. It didn’t even look like the two sides could come to an agreement. For example, in July, the president of the organization admitted that if Miller was not signed during the season, a trade would have to come.

In the end, she didn’t come, and Miller became the highest paid fighter from the current squad. It must be said that, quite deservedly, the team’s offense stands and falls on him. In the few years he’s been with the club, he’s become an indispensable player that the Canucks couldn’t afford to let go.

The management of the team has resolved one situation, but the suffocation that occurs is yet to be resolved. The contracts of Elias Pettersson and Bo Horvat will gradually expire.
