US Open | Ruud – Berrettini 6:1, 6:4, 7:6, US Open already knows the first semifinalists. Ruud can be world number one

Among the women, Uns Džábirová became the first semi-finalist. The 28-year-old Tunisian defeated Australian Ajla Tomljanovic 6:4, 7:6 and advanced to the top four players of the tournament as the first woman from African and Arab countries. In the fight for the final, she will challenge the home Cori Gauff or the French Caroline Garcia.

This year’s Roland Garros finalist Ruud, who plays the role of the fifth seed on the New York concrete, beat Berrettini, who is three years older, in more than two and a half hours. In the match, he lost his serve once, he “broke” his opponent five times. Not even 13 aces helped Berrettini.

“Having the opportunity to become world number one gives me a little more motivation. Of course, I would like to achieve that,” said Ruud in a post-match interview on the court.

The fifth player in the world, Džábirová, is fighting for her second Grand Slam final after this year’s Wimbledon. She surpassed Serena Williams’ 3rd round defeater Tomljanovic in the number of winning balls 29:12.

“The fact that I can inspire other young players in Africa means a lot to me. I know that I have what it takes to win a Grand Slam,” said Džábirová.

The organizers of the US Open had to postpone a number of duels today due to rain. Among them was the women’s doubles quarterfinal, in which Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková will challenge the Canadian-Mexican couple Gabriela Dabrowská and Giuliana Olmosová. The match will take place on Wednesday.
