Football coach Paris St. Germain Christophe Galtier has apologized for an inappropriate joke about the climate situation. The coach said after Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Juventus in the Champions League that he and the club take environmental protection very seriously.

At Monday’s press conference, Galtier was asked why the Paris team flew to the home match in Nantes on Saturday, when it would have taken them less than two hours to travel by a more ecological train.

The coach responded by saying that he had already discussed it with the management and that they would go to the next match on a sailboat.

However, this was met with great displeasure not only by the public, but also by leading political representatives, including the French Minister of Sports.

Galtier therefore apologized after entering the Champions League group stage on Tuesday.

“Believe me, I am watching the problems that our planet has with the climate. I know that we have to be responsible, and the players and the club know it too,” said the fifty-six-year-old coach in an interview with Canal+.

“It was a bad joke and I realized it pretty much immediately. However, even that doesn’t change the fact that I’ve convinced myself that we live in France, where you can’t even joke anymore,” he added.

PSG won Saturday’s match at Nantes 3-0 and are 16 points ahead of Marseille in the table after six rounds.
