The Polish studio CD Projekt RED is currently primarily focused on the development of the new Witcher, which currently employs the largest part of the team. But it is also among other ambitious projects Sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 codenamed Project Orion. CD Projekt’s general plans with this brand were explained in an interview for PC Gamer magazine by narrative director Igor Sarzyński.
According to his words, he would like to advocate for Cyberpunk followed a similar path to the Witcher series, which gradually went through a significant evolution and really achieved significant success only with the arrival of the third part. Cyberpunk is of course in a slightly different position, because CD Projekt itself was already among the established game studios before its release, which was not completely true before the arrival of the first or second Witcher.
But Sarzyński mentions the comparison with The Witcher rather from the point of view of individual game elements, mechanics, art direction or the way of storytelling that the developers had to do when designing Cyberpunk 2077 invent from the ground up. In this regard, Sarzyński admitted that it was natural that everything could not be picked up perfectly on the first try.
With the upcoming second part, however, thanks to the use of already existing elements and the gained experience, the authors can focus more on the improvement of individual mechanics and their deeper connection. According to Sarzyński, it should be the result comprehensive and maximally immersive experience. We will have to wait a number of years to see if the Cyberpunk brand will really see an evolution similar to that experienced by the second and third Witcher. What is certain, however, is that CD Projekt has big plans for Cyberpunk.
