Mobile Radeon RX 7900M with Core Navi 31 is the most powerful mobile model from the 7000 series. Apart from it, AMD only offers core-based cards in the mobile segment Navi 33. On the middle one Navi 32 has not yet arrived. The GPU is equipped with 4608 active stream-processors, game clocks reach around 1825 MHz, 64 MB of Infinity Cache is present and 16 GB of GDDR6 is connected to the 256-bit bus. AMD recommends manufacturers set the TDP to a maximum of 180 watts.
stream-proc. | bus | VRAM | |
---|---|---|---|
Radeon RX 7900M | 4608 | 256 bits | 16 GB |
Radeon RX 7900 GRE | 5120 | 256 bits | 16 GB |
Radeon RX 7900 XT | 5376 | 320 bits | 20 GB |
Radeon RX 7900 XTX | 6144 | 384 bit | 24 GB |
YouTube channel GizmoSlipTech tested an Alienware M18 laptop equipped with this graphics card in 3DMark and achieved a graphics score of 19,743, which is 4% higher than the mobile GeForce RTX 4080.
Radeon RX 7900M in 3DMark (GizmoSlipTech)
This result roughly corresponds to the game performance data published by AMD, according to which the new product should be 7% more powerful than the mobile GeForce RTX 4080 in the game average. Raytracing games are also included in the average. Even in such a configuration, some achieve higher performance than the mentioned GeForce, others are slower – however, for example, the performance in Forza Horizon, where the card does the least, is not given by raytracing (even after turning it off, the situation does not change).
The bonus of the Radeon RX 7900M compared to the GeForce RTX 4080 is a third higher memory capacity (16 GB versus 12 GB). The Alienware M18 notebook equipped with a GeForce RTX 4080 costs $3349, with a Radeon RX 7900M it costs $2799. Whether the extra $550 for the GeForce RTX 4080 is worth it is up to each user to decide for themselves.
