Valve made a surprise announcement tonight Steam Deck OLED. The new model of the popular laptop not only has a high dynamic range (HDR) screen, but also longer battery life, faster Wi-Fi and improved cooling.
Steam Deck OLED is available in two variants: with 512GB and 1TB disk. The first costs 569 euros (approx. 14,000 CZK), the second 679 euros (approx. 16,650 CZK). Both will be available from 16 November this year, while Valve also prepared a limited edition with a 1TB model in a different body. However, it is available in limited quantities only for the United States and Canada.
Valve has also made a decision discontinue the current Steam Deck LCD in 64GB and 512GB variants. That’s why there was a permanent discount. These models will only be available while stocks last. The price of the 64 GB LCD model is 369 euros (approx. 9,000 CZK) and the 512 GB LCD model is 469 euros (approx. 11,500 CZK).
Let’s go to a detailed description of Steam Deck OLED:
“Designed from the ground up for gaming, the Steam Deck’s HDR OLED display offers sharp contrast, excellent brightness and a larger image. So, coupled with more colors, cleaner blacks and flawless motion rendering, you’ll really see familiar games in a new light.” Valve claims.
Battery life will be 30 to 50% longer, the battery is bigger. In addition, the display consumes less and the improved APU manages energy more efficiently. OLED also supports Wi-Fi 6E standardwhich offers more bandwidth and lower latency, which should mean up to 3x faster downloads and a stable connection while playing online.
“Thanks to the larger fan and better cooling solution, the OLED version of the Steam Deck is more comfortable in use it heats up less. And thanks to the new display, it weighs 30 grams less (approximately 5%) than the LCD version.” supplied by Valve.
A docking station for the Steam Deck is also sold for 89 euros. This serves to support the device and enables its connection to external screens, wired internet, USB peripherals and a power source.
