Tina Turner (real name Anna Mae Bullocková) flew away from the family nest at the age of 16. Even then, she was raised only by her grandmother, because her own mother left Tina when she was only 10 years old. She told her that she didn’t love her anymore. Shortly thereafter, her father also disowned her.
At the club in St. Louis met musician Ike Turner, who was 7 years older. He launched her music career when Tina was 22, leading her to the “post-faith” altar across the Mexican border. At that time, he himself was not even properly divorced. And the first shock came already on the wedding night. He took his young newlywed to a nightclub for a live pornographic show.

Their entire marriage was full of violence. “Sure, I hit her. I knocked her to the ground several times without thinking. But I never hit her,” wrote Ike Turner later in his autobiography. But his ex-wife saw it differently. In the book I, Tina in 1986 revealed that Ike had physically abused her throughout their marriage. He beat and raped her, her body was scarred by cigarette burns. He even damaged her nasal cavity with several blows to the nose and she had to undergo plastic surgery.

In the music field, the couple did well, singing one hit after another in the 1960s and early 1970s, winning a Grammy together in 1972 for the song Mary current and in 1991 the Turners were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They divorced in 1978, two years after his addiction led to the demise of their music career together. Subsequently, Ike fell into drugs and alcohol even more. The shells dragged with him, he even spent a year and a half behind bars. He died of a cocaine overdose in 2007.

Three months after her marriage to Erwin Bach (68), with whom she lived for the rest of her life in Switzerland, Tina began to feel ill. “It was an ordinary October morning when I woke up and found myself speechless. I had a stroke. My entire right side of my body was numb. I had to start working with a physical therapist and learn to walk again,” Turner recalls.
“The doctor was concerned that my high blood pressure might affect my kidneys, so he referred me to another specialist. Doctor Jorg Bleich then discovered that my kidneys were only working at thirty-five percent.” describes further.

Turner, however, refused to take the medication prescribed by Bleich and opted for homeopathic treatment. But in doing so, she caused other problems for herself – by not treating her high blood pressure, she destroyed her kidneys. “I do not condemn homeopathy, I myself successfully cured tuberculosis with it in 1969, but this time I was much older and my disease required traditional treatment,” Turner explains.
“My health stopped serving me, I felt so weak that I could not leave the house. In addition, I was then diagnosed with early-stage bowel cancer. When I was waiting for the operation, I cried in front of Erwin: Don’t you regret marrying an old woman?’ But he gave her strength, energy and peace.

“A month later, part of my intestine was removed… But the kidneys were still not working as they should. I had two options – regular dialysis or a transplant. But the chances of finding a donor were small.” recalls Turner, who then began to think about assisted suicide, which is legal in Switzerland. Finally, her husband Erwin offered to give her his kidney.
“At first I tried to talk him out of it, he was a young man, why should he take such a risk?’ writes the singer. But Erwin insisted, and on April 7, 2017, both were already lying in the operating room. The transplant took place without significant complications. “We’ve both been closer than ever since then,” described the diva in her biography.
