Prague – The District Court for Prague 3 will issue a decision today in the case of former MP Dominik Feri, who is charged with two counts of rape and attempted rape. The public prosecutor proposed a roughly three-year prison sentence for him, according to her, all three acts were proven. The former politician has repeatedly denied guilt. In his closing speech, he said, among other things, that the prosecution meant the destruction of his professional and personal life.
According to the public prosecutor, two of the three acts of which Feri is charged occurred in 2016 in his apartment in Prague 3. According to the indictment, the third incident occurred in 2018, when Feri invited a woman to the Chamber of Deputies because of a possible position as an intern. According to the investigators, he tried to kiss and grope the woman, but she managed to leave, therefore the prosecution qualifies the case as an attempted sexual assault.
Feri has repeatedly denied the accusation, denying that he committed any sexual violence. At the main trial and in his final proposal, he repeatedly pointed out the alleged contradictions in the women’s statements. He also said that the police and the public prosecutor were approaching his case on the basis of alibi. According to his defense attorney, the women’s stories are largely fictitious.
As with all previous hearings, the court will issue tickets for today’s announcement of the decision. According to court spokeswoman Darina Maříková, three cameramen will also be allowed access, taking into account the size of the courtroom and preserving the dignity of the proceedings. The method of their selection will be specified by the court before the start of the hearing. The court will not allow the decision to be broadcast live.
