The theme of this year’s 24th edition is At the Crossroads and is intended to refer to small and large decisions that can unexpectedly change people’s lives. Ten feature films will compete for the jury’s main prize. In the capital, the show will last until November 9, and then it will move to Brno, where it will be from November 10 to 17.
“The heroes and heroines of this year’s films deal with tricky questions that may be familiar to many of us… Is it worth continuing a relationship that has already run its course? How to help parents to accept their own child’s identity? But some decisions also play a role off the silver screen. Each of our behaviors is a choice that we influence and the direction of the entire society,” Kristýna Genttnerová, head of its program, said about this year’s theme of the festival.
Viewers can choose from 24 feature films and 45 short films. The Italian film Fireworks, based on real events, will open the festival today in the Lucerna cinema in Prague. It tells the story of the love of two seventeen-year-olds in Italy in the 1980s, whose relationship is complicated by the strongly homophobic environment of a Sicilian town. In the following days, the program includes, for example, the French melodrama Mijení, the German study of human relationships What’s left of us or the film Rule 34, awarded at the Locarno festival.
The program also includes a retrospective, a short film competition and accompanying events. People can find complete information on the website www.mezipatra.cz.
